Dorothy is a girl who lives in Kansas with her uncle and aunt. One day a cyclone carries her and her dog to the magical land of Oz. She desperately wants to return home and so she begins to travel to the Emerald City where a great wizard lives. On her way she meets a Scarecrow who wants a brain, a Tin Man who desires a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who needs courage. They all hope that the Wizard of Oz will help them, before the Wicked Witch of the West catches them…
The inserts are about wizards and witches and about the main differences between the original book by L. Frank Baum and the 1939 film version by Victor Fleming, which inspired this reader.
